Darlingside - New Single out now.

So this came across my desk today, and I've just dug in to it a bunch of times.

New England's string-rock quartet Darlingside have released their latest 7" today, titled The Edge of the Earth. In accordance with this release, the band has put out a brand new single, "Sweet and Low," along with a live video of the track performed acoustically.

Don from Darlingside explains, "'Sweet and Low' was the last track recorded during the Pilot Machines sessions, and it features the album's only guest performance (Caitlin Canty, vocals). The song's lyrics were inspired by a song-writing date at the local coffee shop, where artificial sweeteners were rather abundant. The percussive loop that begins the song is the only remaining component from the original pinhole-mic demo recording."

The Edge of the Earth marks the third and final 7" of the band's ambitious release schedule, all building up toward their full-length album Pilot Machines, due out July 17th, 2012. Darlingside is currently on tour throughout the East Coast.

Dan Brenner - CD Release show June 9th

When eight-time Grammy award winning producer Jay Newland first heard Dan Brenner, he knew he had discovered an unusually gifted songwriter and musician. He pulled together a band comprised of some of the greatest musicians on the planet – multi-instrumentalist Larry Campbell (Levon Helm, Bob Dylan), Grammy-winning bass player Will Lee, drummer Shawn Pelton, and former Morphine member Dana Colley. The end result of this star-studded collaboration was Brenner’s deeply personal and uplifting debut album as a solo artist, Little Dark Angel.

June 9th will bring together Brenner’s enthusiastic and ever-expanding audience for an evening of high-energy and high-quality music. His remarkable stage presence, incredibly talented band, and impressive live show are not to be missed.

Heldin - Swampy Blues Rock..whats not to love?

Like the Melvins?  Looking for an album with some melodic blues and swampy metal riffs?  Toss in the good old "whiskey soaked vocals" and you get the idea!

Heldin debut titled, Profungalactic, was recorded in Brooklyn, NY by Jason LaFarge, will be released digitally June 5, 2012 and on CD June 26, 2012. Heldin is a rock quartet that hails from Brooklyn's waterfront area, Red Hook. The band is fronted by Aubrey Smith, the "diminutive pirate queen," as she is hailed by her band mates.

The self-released EP contains five songs that range from heavy rock tracks like "On The Nose," to eerie and hypnotic numbers like "You Picked The Wrong Cow." The title track, "Profungalactic," is an expression in dynamic vocals, dirty slide guitar and explosive drums. Rounding out the EP are "No Toto," a sludgy song about a dog and "Love Song," a twisted ode to love and melody.

Profungalactic, features Aubrey Smith (Broken Social Scene, The Batterie and Percy Jones & the MJ-12) on vocals and keyboards; Phil Kester (Gongzilla, Elliptical Ferns, Drumplay and The Batterie) on drums; Scott Murchison (Chicken Missile and Nymph) on guitars. The current live line-up includes Jason LaFarge playing bass who has previously played in Hallux and Pineal Ventana and Frank McDermott from We Are All Savages playing guitars.

Recommended if you like Harvey Milk, Melins and Dickless.

John Butler - Tin Shed's Tales

One of Australia's most respected singer/songwriters, John Butler returned to his roots, performing a series of solo concerts throughout the country over the past couple of months. Aptly titled Tin Shed Tales, the shows were a rare opportunity to hear the music of this iconic artist, solo and in a raw and intimate setting. Designed and dressed personally by John, his Tin Shed was recreated; decked out with a collection of personal art pieces and old skool skateboards with his vintage guitars hanging from the corrugated shed walls.

Now John Butler gives his fans the opportunity to relive the experience with the release of the Tin Shed Tales Live Recording packaged in a 2 CD set. This CD truly captures John Butler in a completely new light, not only as the skillful musician stripped back and bare but as a humbled and relaxed performer. It's as if he's hanging out with a bunch of close friends as he engages the audience interspersing his music prowess with anecdotes, some of which will make you laugh and move you and others which might well give you food for thought.

The first five shows of the tour; Fremantle, Kalgoorlie, Mandurah, Dunsbourough and Albany - were recorded and the best tracks, accompanied by John's insightful tales, have been selected to form the content of the Tin Shed Tales Double CD.

The 13 track package includes classics like 'Better Than', 'Pickapart' and 'Treat yo Mama', as well as reworkings of April Uprising's hit 'Revolution', a moving rendition of the classic Irish ballad 'Danny Boy' and the brand new song 'Kimberley' amongst others.

The double CD Digipack will be made available from all good retailers and online through iTunes, and
Musictoday.com in the USA

God Speed! You Black Emperor coming to Boston.

Pretty excited about this for sure.  The Canadian band will be hittng the road this fall for a string of dates.  Landed myself two balcony tickets for the show here in Boston.

Normally I like to sit "close" but this I wanted to sit back and really take it in.

The last time they were here was 2003.

Need to wait until October 1st though!
