On the TV

I've found in recent weeks that I've been watching TV with a little more "purpose." Sure, I have a show here or there that I follow, but so many have passed me by. This summer I decided I was actually going to watch stuff—sit down and watch something I chose rather than just "surfing" and settling. A few of these are old, a few are newer, but all have been fun in their own way.

The old:

After years, I finally watched Freaks and Geeks. I have to say, I really liked this one. A few "eye roll" moments like most shows, but overall, really good. Probably the pop culture references and generally likeable characters. As a "band kid," I felt like I sorta fell in the middle, so I could identify and empathize with both sides.

It was also fun reading about the show as I watched it—like how the cast knew it was being cancelled but still finished things out. Sure, I'd love to know what happened "next year," but maybe not knowing adds to the charm.

The not so old:

The Mandalorian — I am/was a Star Wars kid. Not sure why this one eluded me when it was airing, but the movies had me realizing I needed to get on it. I'm around episode 4-5 of Season 1. It's "OK" so far, and I'm being patient because I knew the show was highly rated overall. I'm curious when/if it really hooks me.

The other is Your Friends and Neighbors. I'm glad I decided to watch this one. Again, a few moments that make you say "come on," but overall it's entertaining enough to keep me wondering what happens next. It's called a dark comedy, and I admit there were definitely a few moments where I got that "tag." I actually laughed out loud a few times. I have one episode left of Season 2, and it appears it's been renewed for Season 3.

Oh, and how can I forget Ted Lasso? This is one I could not escape. So many "you have to see it" recommendations, and I finally had to agree. It's been a lot of fun. I have one episode left of Season 3, and from what I've read, it was originally intended to be three seasons, but it was so popular they decided to do a fourth. I also (no spoilers!) understand Season 3 ends with that in mind—there wasn't necessarily going to be more—so I'm hopeful.

I'm actually slowing my roll on Season 4 and letting a few episodes build up. 

The new:

The Westies. I took a chance on this one based on the previews on MGM+. I like(d) it. They just aired Episode 8 of Season 1, and I realized about halfway through that it was the season finale. Not sure if it's the series finale. I haven't heard a lot of people talking about it.

It has some "holy crap" violent moments at times, so maybe that's part of it. 

Now I'm looking for what to watch next.
